The Summer I Turned Pretty Shifts to Weekly Rollout at Amazon
Amazon has decided to change the rollout model for season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Based on a book trilogy from Jenny Han, the series is moving from a binge drop in season one to a weekly rollout for the second season. The sophomore season is set to debut on July 14th, with the first three episodes out of eight. Subsequent episodes will be rolled out every Friday, with the finale set to be released on August 18th.
The debut season of the series featured seven episodes, all of which were released on June 17th, 2022. Amazon confirmed that The Summer I Turned Pretty was the number one show on Prime Video during its debut weekend. However, Amazon has not provided any viewership data.
It’s worth noting that this change in release structure comes amid writers going on strike. The strike is a result of the guild seeking increased residuals from streaming, viewership transparency, and other protections from what is known as mini rooms and the utilization of artificial intelligence.
As per the last WGA strike, which lasted for 100 days, numerous broadcast shows came to an abrupt end. It is uncertain how much original scripted content streamers have in their arsenal amid the current Peak TV streaming era.
Amazon has not disclosed any reasons for the shift in release pattern for The Summer I Turned Pretty. Should they provide any details, we’ll update the story accordingly.
