When Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry fulfilled their royal duties by taking part in various ceremonies, meeting mourners and posing for photos with Harry’s family.
Of course, this wasn’t just for show, and Harry’s grief over the loss of a woman who had held such an important place in his life since childhood was heartbreakingly evident on several occasions.
But despite their sadness at the queen’s passing and the icy reception they received from Harry’s family, the Sussexes stood their ground and lived up to their obligations to crown and country.
However, when they asked for a favor after that challenging week, they were reportedly turned away due to hostilities with the royals.
according to a new report of The Daily MailHarry and Meghan contacted the Biden administration and requested a return trip to the US on Air Force One.
Joe and Jill were present for the funeral, and complying with the request would have simply meant making room for Harry and Meghan on the plane.
But the White House denied the Sussexes a ride home, reportedly due to friction between the couple and the rest of the royal family.
According to a source, the White House did not even consider the request.
The source described the situation as a “no start”, adding that “there was hardly any discussion”.
“It would have caused such a commotion. It would have strained relations with the Palace and the new King,” said the informant.
Multiple outlets, including the New York Posthe has now reached out to both the Sussexes and the Biden administration for confirmation, but so far, neither party has spoken publicly on the matter.
Obviously, if this story is true, the Bidens made their decision out of diplomacy and not out of any personal animosity towards Harry and Meghan.
Still, a rumor like this is the last thing the Sussexes need these days.
The couple have been enduring a barrage of bad press that one outlet has dubbed the “era of failure” for Harry and Meghan.
From the mixed response to Harry’s memoir to the cancellation of Meghan’s Spotify podcast, there’s a general feeling that the couple’s transition from British royals to American media darlings hasn’t been as smooth as they had hoped.
The Air Force One snub, if it actually happened, is a minor matter that took place almost a year ago.
But it’s the kind of story that the Sussexes’ haters in the British tabloids are sure to enjoy.
Harry and Meghan’s return is not only likely, it’s all but inevitable.
However, new hiccups like this aren’t exactly helping the process.
