Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and Pallavi Joshi are back with a new series, The unreported Kashmiri files, which will air on ZEE5 in August. As part of the promotion for the series, the creators visited the fascinating Dal Lake, where they met the warm Kashmiri people and became immersed in local sightings.
The picturesque location served as the perfect backdrop for the creators to unveil their powerful narrative that seeks to uncover the hidden truths of Kashmir’s tumultuous history. Kashmir holds a special place in the hearts of Vivek and Pallavi as they have spent months researching Kashmiri history and speaking with Kashmiri Pandits to understand their plight. Therefore, the start of the promotions in Kashmir, which also on the mesmerizing shores of Dal Lake was really special for the creators.
Enjoying the ride on the Dal Lake and expressing his thoughts on the series, Vivek Agnihotri said, “Kashmir Files Unreported is like a valuable, important and priceless national archive brought to you by ZEE5. We started researching in 2018 and it took us 5 years of extensive research to gather our thoughts and the data needed to create the series. With experts, journalists and victims we have tried to show it in the most sensitive, authentic and sincere way possible. As we live in the hustle and bustle of metropolitan cities, we often forget the core of humanity, which is compassion. This series brought me back to the core philosophy of unity arising from the land of Kashmir. In the midst of the struggle for partition or division, we become victims and forget the core values of kindness and compassion. In the end we are all one.”
He added: “While filming for The Kashmir Files Unreported, the only question I would ask myself: Is he honest, candid, correct, is he okay? I wanted to show everything in its raw form and I hope I did it justice. Many broken Kashmiri pundit families wrote me emails telling me that the film started its healing process after 32 years. That was very satisfying to hear. Through the series, people will know who the perpetrators of terrorism were and I am sure it will affect the younger generation as well.”
The unreported Kashmiri files It promises to be a compelling exploration of untold stories, deftly weaving together real-life anecdotes, survivor testimonials, and authentic archival footage. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and Pallavi Joshi undertook this journey with the intention of honoring voices that have gone unheard for too long. The series covers the historical, ethical and geopolitical complexities that resulted in the harrowing massacre and mass departure of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s. The series stands as a moving tribute to the tenacity of the Kashmiri Pandit community, a testament to their unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
