Former Congressman Dave Trott described Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as an “asshole” who does not care about people in an interview. Trott referred to his experiences serving with DeSantis in Congress, citing instances where DeSantis did not introduce himself or greet Trott. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has received an initial wave of endorsements from Florida lawmakers. DeSantis, who is widely considered as Trump’s primary challenger from the Republican Party, has been trying to build his reputation through a book tour and visits to several primary states. However, his campaign has been overshadowed by Trump’s dominance within the Republican Party.
Several Florida representatives, including Greg Steube and Anna Paulina Luna, have expressed difficulty in connecting with DeSantis, while praising Trump’s personable approach. Steube shared that he had reached out to DeSantis multiple times but received no response. In contrast, Trump was the first to call Steube after an accident that landed him in the ICU earlier this year. Luna, who also endorsed Trump, received a personal note from him after her father’s death.
Trott described DeSantis as an “arrogant guy” with an ability to address the electorate’s critical issues. He claimed the governor was focused on only advancing his political ambitions. The governor’s spokesperson declined to respond to Trott’s remarks.
