Carlos Alcaraz marked his 20th birthday celebrations with a win against 17th-seeded Borna Coric in the Madrid Open on Friday. After the match, Alcaraz was presented with a cake shaped like a tennis ball with the number 20 on top, which he cut and tried a slice of. The audience then sang “Happy Birthday” in Spanish for him. Alcaraz, who is ranked second, aims to win his fourth title this season and will face Jan-Lennard Struff or Aslan Karatsev in the final on Sunday. The defending champion will be looking to recover his world No. 1 ranking by playing one match in Rome next week if he successfully defends his title in Madrid.
