Lionel Messi has issued an apology to his Paris St Germain (PSG) team-mates and the club for his trip to Saudi Arabia earlier this week. The player missed a training session following his unauthorised travel, leading to a two-week suspension. Reports suggest Messi believed he had a day off after the side’s recent loss to Lorient, as was the case in previous weeks. However, he chose to go ahead with his travel plans and was subsequently sanctioned by the club. Speaking on Instagram, the footballer admitted his mistake and expressed his regret. PSG is currently leading the Ligue 1 table, with five games left in the season. Messi has supposedly been offered a contract by Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, having been appointed as the nation’s tourism ambassador last year. The Argentine forward visited the country earlier this year and, in January, played a friendly match there with PSG against a team of local league players.
