USMNT goalie Matt Turner hits batting practice home runs before Cardinals game – UnlistedNews

Before Matt Turner became a goalie for Arsenal and the United States Men’s National Team, he was a baseball player.

And Turner seems to still have some chops. Turner got a chance to show off his sweet home run swing by doing some hitting practice in St. Louis before the Cardinals faced the Houston Astros on Tuesday, and he hit four home runs:

Turner claims his baseball background has helped him as a goaltender, telling MLB Network that his unique background has influenced his style of play.

“I created my own style. I took things from all different sports and then used them efficiently to make my goal easier,” Turner said. “I wouldn’t change anything about my multi-sport experience.”

Turner is one of the few European-based World Cup 2022 veterans currently in the USMNT squad for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where his crucial penalty save helped the USA salvage a 1-1 tie. 1 against Jamacia in the first match.
