Deepak Bhoria, Nishant Dev join Hussamuddin in world boxing quarters

Indian boxers Deepak Bhoria and Nishant Dev have joined Mohammad Hussamuddin in the quarterfinals of the 3rd ASBC Asian Men and Women Boxing Championships in Dubai, UAE. Both boxers secured their berths with impressive wins in their respective bouts.

Bhoria’s win

Bhoria, who competes in the featherweight category, notched up a 5-0 unanimous victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Ruslan Kazarinov in his pre-quarterfinal bout. The Indian boxer outclassed his opponent with his quick reflexes and powerful punches, and never allowed him to settle into the game. Bhoria will now face reigning Olympic champion and top seed Uzbekistan’s Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Dev’s victory

Nishant Dev, who competes in the welterweight category, defeated Indonesia’s Samsul Hadi in his pre-quarterfinal bout. Dev had to dig deep to secure his victory, and managed to clinch a close 3-2 win. He will now face Tajikistan’s Shermukhammad Rustamov in the quarterfinals.

Hussamuddin’s journey so far

Mohammad Hussamuddin, who competes in the bantamweight category, has already secured his place in the quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Azat Usenaliev. The Indian boxer, who has been in impressive form in the tournament so far, will now face top seed and reigning world champion Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Latipov in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

India’s overall performance

India has so far had a good run in the tournament, with several boxers booking their places in the quarterfinals. Along with Bhoria, Dev, and Hussamuddin, India’s Amit Panghal, Ashish Kumar, Sanjeet Kumar, Sumit Sangwan, Shiva Thapa, and Pooja Rani have also advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective categories.

The way forward

The 3rd ASBC Asian Men and Women Boxing Championships is a crucial tournament for Indian boxers, as it serves as a qualifier for the upcoming World Championships in Serbia and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
