There was a shocking twist this week in love island that has screaming fans. Well, no in the show, exactly.
Rita Ora gave the islanders of the reality series a VIP performance during a pool party and, yes, two couples were banned from the island, but what left US-based fans of the British reality series stunned is that the episode disappeared from Hulu. Added Sunday and then removed without explanation.
Fans took to Reddit and other social platforms to vent their frustration, with some including screenshots of chats with Hulu’s customer service. A couple of those reps assumed it might be a license issue, but the hollywood reporter has confirmed that this is not the case. Viewers who watched the episode before it was removed (including this writer) noticed that the closed captioning wasn’t working properly and that’s why the episode was removed. There are no problems with rights or authorizations.
For the uninitiated, love island uk is an ITV dating competition reality series that places attractive twenty-somethings in a villa on the Spanish island of Mallorca and follows their search for romance. There are silly and often raunchy dares, plenty of pranks, and there’s no shortage of kissing as the cast compete to make a couple. It airs every day for eight weeks and fans can vote for their favorite couples along the way, sometimes resulting in the least popular duo being dropped.
There is a delay of several days between when the episodes air in the UK and when they are available to stream in the US, but they are usually released daily and there is a preview of what will come next and when it will be released. As of Tuesday, the most recent episode available is the one that aired in the UK on July 17.
Meanwhile, over at X, the site formerly known as Twitter, @HuluSupport is working overtime to ensure fans are “all hands on deck” and that the team is working to get them up and running as soon as possible.
